Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine. It can range from occasional minor leaks to a complete loss of bladder control. This condition affects people of all ages but is more common in older adults, especially women.

Causes and Risk Factors
  • Weak pelvic floor muscles (due to pregnancy, childbirth, aging, or obesity)
  • Neurological disorders (stroke, Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis)
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Enlarged prostate in men

Diagnosis

  • Medical history and symptom discussion
  • Physical examination (including pelvic exam for women and prostate exam for men)
  • Urinalysis (to rule out infections)
  • Bladder diary (tracking urination patterns)
  • Urodynamic tests (to assess bladder function)
